Education Groups

We can offer a range of self-led and bespoke visits to CofGâr museums across the county for schools, colleges, home education groups and others. We've crafted all our workshop sessions and materials to fit in perfectly with the new Curriculum for Wales.

See below to find out more about each of our venues.

Carmarthenshire Museum and the Bishop's Park

The museum is based in the Old Bishop's Palace of St David's and is full of atmosphere, crafts, and stories.

Our permanent displays showcase changemakers throughout Carmarthenshire history with galleries themed around agriculture, industry, and many more.

Learning spaces include the Victorian schoolroom, the Home Front, the Bishop's Kitchen and the Bishop's Chapel.

A day trip can include both the museum and the Bishop's Park. The Bishop's Park is managed by a separate organisation, but we can arrange joint visits to focus on similar or different areas of the curriculum to suit your needs. For more information, see their website for lots of learning ideas or contact enquiries@tywigateway.org.uk.

Dylan Thomas Boathouse

The Boathouse may be small, but it holds so much potential for educational visits. From creative writing to nature and the environment, the Boathouse is the perfect place for both inspiration and investigation.

Education groups can enjoy the displays all about Dylan Thomas and his works inside the house or take part in activities in the outdoor space below the tearoom.

There's also Dylan's Writing Shed just a short distance away along the Wales Coastal Path. Furnished as if Dylan has just got up for a stroll, it offers great views of the Taf estuary and the wildlife that thrive there.

Museum of Land Speed

This brand new, sustainable museum is a must for anyone interested in the sciences. Interactive displays tell Pendine’s extraordinary story at the centre of global land speed records in the 1920s to the present day and offers a unique experience.

Audio visual elements immerse audiences of all abilities and interests in the daring and drama of pushing physics to its limits. These real stories of human endeavour and ingenuity are brought to life alongside the machines that drove them to glory.

Hands-on exhibits also give insights into the geology, engineering, and physics that makes Pendine sands perfect for racing.

There's even a magnificent function room that offers beautiful views down the seven mile beach and connectivity to a state-of-the-art projector and HD camera.

Parc Howard Museum

The museum has recently been completely refurbished to provide new and exciting experiences for all visitors.

Play, discovery, and invention are the themes that are repeated throughout the new exhibitions that illustrate Llanelli's history of imagination and reimagination. From hands-on Victorian games and amusements, to displays that illustrate Llanelli's entrepreneurs past and present, everything is designed to create wonder and inspiration.

The collection of paintings in the elegant Painting Gallery offer a superb overview of art and cultural history in Llanelli and Wales. There are also opportunities to dress up and sketch your own masterpieces!

If that wasn't enough, then we also offer the Llanelly Pottery Stories gallery, which hosts the largest collection of this local icon on public display anywhere in the world. It's a great place to learn about the challenging conditions and processes in which ceramics were made and the beauty of the designs that were popular around the globe. We've also produced some films about Llanelly Pottery to whet your appetite!
