Museum of Land Speed Accessibility Guide

This page sets out accessibility guidance and information to help you get the most out of your visit. Please let us know if there is any additional information that we can provide and we will be happy to update this guidance.

Entrance

The main entrance of the Museum of Land Speed is step-free. The outer door is always propped open during ordinary opening hours to facilitate wheelchair users. The inner door opens automatically on approach.

The museum entrance is located on north side of the building facing away from the beach. Look for the Caban accommodation from the main car park (the large, grey building with an orange sign on the side showing 'Caban') and head towards it. Continue along the side of the Caban that faces the children's play area and you'll see another large, grey building further on, which is the Museum. A green sign with the Museum name hangs on the wall outside the main entrance.

See our Sustainable Travel guide for more information on getting to the Museum of Land Speed.

Quieter times to visit

The museum is typically quieter during the last two hours before closing.

Weekends, school holidays, and event days are usually the busiest days. See our What's On page to check what events are happening before your visit.

There is one, large gallery space inside, which is partially partitioned. There is also a special exhibition gallery and the 'video cave' Babs experience. The Museum has audiovisual displays that play on a continuous loop throughout the day that some visitors may find loud. The quietest space in the Museum is usually the special exhibition gallery.

If you need to find a quieter space, please ask a member of staff.

Assistance dogs

We welcome suitably trained assistance dogs. They must be under your control during your visit and remain on a lead and wear a relevant tabard or harness.

Where possible, dog owners should bring their Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK), Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) identification book. Your dog should wear an appropriate tabard or harness, but this is not a requirement for entry.

If your assistance dog is not registered with ADI, ADUK or IGDF, we reserve the right to deny entry to your dog if it does not appear to have been appropriately trained.

If you plan to visit with an assistance animal other than an assistance dog, please get in touch to discuss your request with us at info@cofgar.wales

Accessible toilets

We have two Changing Places toilets on the ground floor of the museum just off the Reception Area. One of these is specifically designated as an accessible toilet. There are also accessible toilets next door in the Caban and at the rear of the Parry Thomas Centre further along the promenade.

Accessibility aids

Large print and subtitles

We are working on making large print guides available for all our galleries and exhibitions. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of your visit if you would like a large print guide to the Museum. We will then ensure that we have this ready for you at Reception.

All films playing on audiovisual screens include subtitles.

Ear defenders for children

We have three sets of child-sized ear defenders available for use. Please book these at least three clear days in advance of your visit at info@cofgar.wales

Portable Induction Hearing Loop

We have one portable induction hearing loop available for use at Reception. There is no need to book this device.

Lift and gallery access

All exhibition areas of the Museum are on the ground floor. However, for special events and some family activities, we also open the Function Room on the upper floor. A lift can be accessed on the ground floor at the rear of the Museum to connect to the upper floor. The lift is wheelchair-friendly.

There are signs indicating the operating instructions of the lift.
