Parc Howard Museum is close to several public bus routes that connect to towns and cities in the region.

 

From Swansea

The 111 service from Swansea to Llanelli (via Loughor) stops at Andrew Street in Llanelli every 30 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays. It also stops there every hour on Sunday afternoons. From here, there is a 15-minute walk uphill to the museum along streetside pavements. The service terminates at Llanelli Bus Station.

 

The X11 service from Swansea to Carmarthen (via Llanelli) stops at Llanelli Bus Station every hour on weekdays and Saturdays. The museum is a 20-minute walk uphill from the bus station along streetside pavements.

 

From Carmarthen

The X11 service from Carmarthen to Swansea (via Llanelli) stops at Llanelli Bus Station every hour on weekdays and Saturdays. The museum is a 20-minute walk uphill from the bus station along streetside pavements.

 

The 195 service from Carmarthen to Llanelli (via Pontyberem) terminates at Llanelli Bus Station every two hours on weekdays and Saturdays. The bus also stops at St Ellyw's Church on Bridge Street, which reduces the walk to Parc Howard to 15 minutes.

 

The 197 service from Carmarthen to Llanelli terminates at Llanelli Bus Station every two hours on weekdays and Saturdays.

 

From Ammanford

The 128 service from Ammanford to Llanelli stops on Felinfoel Road just outside Parc Howard every two hours during weekdays and Saturdays. There is a short walk of 3-minutes up a small incline through the park to the main entrance of the museum.

 

Train

Llanelli has a train station just off the B4304 to the south of the town centre that is a 25-minute walk to the bus station and a 35-minute walk to the museum.

 

The L1, L2, and L6 bus services connect the train station to Llanelli Bus Station from the bus stop on Copperworks Road opposite the Astoria. The bus stop is a 5-minute walk from the train station. Journey times between the train station and bus station range from 13 minutes to 32 minutes depending on the service.

 

From Swansea

There are regular trains from Swansea to Llanelli all week with journey times of no more than 20 minutes.

 

From Carmarthen

There are regular trains from Carmarthen to Llanelli all week with journey times of no more than 32 minutes.

 

From Ammanford

There are two trains from Ammanford to Llanelli between 9:00 and 14:00 during weekdays and Saturdays. Journey times are around 25 minutes.

Active Travel

Visiting Parc Howard Museum is a great opportunity for a day of active travel. The museum is located within a large public park that offers grassed areas and benches for picnics as well as pleasant pathways suitable for wheelchairs. 

Walking

The area around Parc Howard is suitable for walking and cycling with several public footpaths close by. A 10-minute walk downhill will take you into the town centre where you'll find historic sites such as Llanelly House and St Elli's Church

 

You'll find the extensive Millennium Coastal Park, developed from regenerated industrial land, just a 20-minute walk from the town centre. This fabulous site stretches several kilometres around the coast to link up with Burry Port and Pembrey Country Park in the west. Following the Millennium Coastal Path (which forms one section of the Wales Coastal Path) to the east will take you all the way to the National Wetlands Centre Wales, situated in Llwynhendy on the Burry Inlet.

 

Opening in mid-2025, the state-of-the-art Pentre Awel facility will open its fantastic new leisure centre, which is just a 15-minute walk south along the B4304 from the train station. Another 5-10-minute walk away is the Machynys Peninsula Golf Club and Premier Spa Resort that's perfect for a leisurely start or end to the day. 

 

Cycling

In addition to the cycle-friendly opportunities above, a beautiful cycle path lies around the Swiss Valley Reservoir and Upper Lliedi Reservoir, just two miles north of Parc Howard along the A476. The path can be followed for just over 9 miles to Tumble, where you'll find the Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, founded upon the site of the former Carmarthenshire anthracite coalfield.

 

From Tumble, you can choose to head north along National Cycle Route 47 through Drefach and Porthyrhyd for 6.5 miles, which will bring you to the renowned National Botanic Garden of Wales and the British Bird of Prey Centre.

 

Alternatively, you could choose to continue east for 4 miles via part of National Cycle Route 47 through Cefneithin and Gorslas to Llyn Llech Owain Country Park, offering an oasis of peace in a 180-acre hidden gem.
