Parking

The nearest public car park is Green Banks Car Park, just off the A4066, adjacent to the marsh. Check the tide timetable for high tides as the car park can get flooded.

Walking from the town centre or from the public car park is step-free, but both routes include inclines that may be challenging for visitors with disabilities that affect mobility.

Welcome to the Dylan Thomas Boathouse
The Boathouse was the last home of Wales's most famous poet, Dylan Thomas, who lived here with his family for four years between 1949 and 1953. This was a special place for them all - a warm and happy family home. The Boathouse may be small, but the atmosphere and memories it evokes are great, which attracts visitors from all over the world.
Inside, you'll find many reminders of Dylan's time here, from the cosy sitting room downstairs to images and objects from his life and times upstairs.
You'll discover Dylan's story and how he became famous (and infamous!) and see a range of displays that will bring you closer to his creative and unconventional mind.
Dylan Thomas at the Boathouse
Dylan Thomas first arrived in Laugharne in 1934 aged 19. He came with a friend by ferry from the other side of the Taf estuary and would have alighted just behind the Boathouse. He was instantly fascinated with Laugharne.
It was from the Boathouse that Dylan made the fateful journey to New York where he died in 1953 aged 39; an early death that turned a talent into a legend.
Dylan’s family still have a very strong connection to the Boathouse. Aeronwy, Dylan’s only daughter, became an ambassador for his work as well as a fine writer herself. Since her untimely death in 2009 the mantle has passed to her daughter, Hannah Ellis, who is herself a regular visitor to the Boathouse with her family. This is a place the Thomas family still feel very much at home.
