Find the Boathouse
Our address
Dylan Thomas Boathouse, Dylan's Walk, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, SA33 4SD.
Sustainable travel
The Boathouse is on a public bus route, with daily services to Carmarthen (number 222) and Tenby via Saundersfoot (no. 351) operated by Taf Valley Coaches.
The nearest train stations to the Boathouse are at Whitland (approx. 10 miles), Tenby (approx. 20 miles), and Carmarthen (approx. 16 miles).
The Wales Coast Path passes right beside the Boathouse and along towards Pendine in the west, to St Clears in the north, and to Llansteffan in the east.
Cars and parking
Please use postcode SA33 4SY for Satnav. This will take you to Green Banks Car Park beside the marsh. Check the tide timetable for high tides as the car park can get flooded.
There Boathouse is a 10 minute walk from the car park and is signposted if walking along the path beside the marsh and the castle.
Accessibility
The Boathouse was perfect for Dylan Thomas because it offered peace and inspiring views. But this was due to the challenge of accessing it for visitors.
To find us, there is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Laugharne or from the car park. Once there, you'll find the Boathouse down 40 steps, with 10 more steps inside that will lead to the lovely tearoom.
There is currently no access for wheelchairs and no toilet for people with disabilities. However, we are looking for other creative ways to allow everyone to experience the site, which we hope to announce soon.
Dogs are welcome on leads in the tearoom only.

Exhibition Rooms
Dylan Thomas and his family lived here for just four years at the end of his life between 1949 and 1953. Yet this special place feels like a warm and happy family home. The Boathouse may be small, but the atmosphere and memories it evokes are great, which attracts visitors from all over the world.
Inside, you'll find many reminders of Dylan's time here, from the cosy sitting room downstairs to images and objects from his life and times upstairs.
You'll discover Dylan's story and how he became famous (and infamous!) and see a range of displays that will bring you closer to his creative and unconventional mind.
Tearoom
Visitors come to see the Boathouse... but they stay for the wonderful tearoom! With outdoor seating and spectacular views of the Taf estuary, there is no better place to relax and appreciate this inspiring home.
Most of our food is homemade in the original kitchen and we strive to use locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. We are dog friendly and offer dog ice-cream as a special treat!

Dylan at the Boathouse
Dylan Thomas first arrived in Laugharne in 1934 aged 19. He came with a friend by ferry from the other side of the Taf estuary and would have alighted just behind the Boathouse. He was instantly fascinated with Laugharne.
It was from the Boathouse that Dylan made the fateful journey to New York where he died in 1953 aged 39; an early death that turned a talent into a legend.
Dylan’s family still have a very strong connection to the Boathouse. Aeronwy, Dylan’s only daughter, became an ambassador for his work as well as a fine writer herself. Since her untimely death in 2009 the mantle has passed to her daughter, Hannah Ellis, who is herself a regular visitor to the Boathouse with her family. This is a place the Thomas family still feel very much at home.
