The use of charms and amulets was believed to ward off diseases and heal symptoms during medieval times

These charms and amulets were often in the form of a small pouch, tied to a belt or hung in the home. Their function was to purify the air and protect the owner from disease in a time when medicine was mainly a matter of faith. For many, spices from the orient, precious crystals and metals were far too rare and expensive, most people relied on ‘sympathetic magik’ and herbs.
