Summer Stitching Demonstrations

Join our friendly and informative CofGâr Stitch in Time volunteer group every Wednesday* at Carmarthenshire Museum, 1-3pm, during the summer holidays for some fascinating demonstrations.

The group will demonstrate a variety of stitching techniques that you can then try for yourself at home. You're welcome to simply watch and learn or to bring your own stitching projects and stitch along with the group.

Crochet

Crochet derives from knitting, but has evolved into a separate craft. Its name derives from the word ‘croc’ or hook in French, and uses a hook, a single needle and is worked one stitch at a time. We will be demonstrating traditional and Tunisian crochet at this session.

Cross Stitch and Tent Stitch

Cross Stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled pattern are used to form a picture.

Tent Stitch is half a cross-stitch and is often used in wool work, where the yarn is too thick for cross-stitch.

*Please be aware that renovation works to some exhibition galleries and to the car parking area will take place over the summer. The Museum may need to close at short notice or access may be limited on some days.

Closures or limited access will be posted on social media and the website Homepage as soon as they are known.

About the Stitch In Time Volunteers

The Stitch In Time group of volunteers meet at Carmarthenshire Museum every third Wednesday of the month. They have worked with the Museum frequently over the last few years on many projects. Most notably, they designed a beautiful textured panel inspired by the National Gallery Masterpiece Tour painting of Tobias and the Angel, exhibited in late 2023.

They are now working on some exciting designs for the next major exhibition at Carmarthenshire Museum: Exploring Ancient Egypt. The exhibition is due to open in 2025.

If you would like to join the group or volunteer at Carmarthenshire Museum, then please get in touch with us at info@cofgar.wales.
