Our textile collection has examples made of local materials during the 1800s. They are beautiful, functional, and give a glimpse into the lives of the people who made and used them.

Carmarthenshire is perfect for making textiles. The rainy climate feeds both the grassland for native sheep and the rivers that power its woollen mills.

Only a handful of Welsh woollen mills operate commercially today. Yet the popularity of the traditional 'carthen' blanket and woven clothing and quilts is growing. Vintage pieces from the golden era of Welsh textile production connect deeply with Welsh emotions of place and a longing for home.
