Event Description

Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes in Romantic Wales: Turner and his Contemporaries, join Carmarthenshire Museum’s talented Stitch In Time volunteer group for a special hands-on textile art activity on Wednesday 19 August.

Help create two large community textile panels, each measuring 3ft x 2ft, based on composite views taken from paintings in the exhibition. Working together, visitors of all ages can add fabric, ribbon and stitch to a pre-drawn landscape, gradually building colourful scenes inspired by Turner’s vision of Wales.

Whether you are an experienced crafter or simply curious to try something new, everyone is welcome. Younger participants can use glue sticks to add pre-cut fabric shapes, while older children and adults can sew their contributions using needles and thread. A wide range of materials will be provided, including fabric scraps, ribbons and decorative textiles, allowing each participant to leave their own creative mark on the artwork.

Choose from one of two free drop-in sessions: 10.30am to 12.30pm or 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Once completed, the panels will be professionally stay-stitched by the volunteer team to preserve the design. The finished artworks will become a lasting legacy of the day, inspiring future museum displays, school visits and creative projects.

Come along, get creative and help stitch a new piece of Carmarthenshire’s cultural story.
